Cheryl Burke’s Holiday Stay-Fit Tips |
Dancing with the Stars pro Cheryl Burke made it all the way to the finals last month, but she won’t be celebrating with an extra serving of her favorite stuffing over the holidays.
“Now that the show has wrapped, I have to be careful not to indulge,” Burke, 27, told PEOPLE at a NYC event for Macy’s activewear line Ideology. “It’s important for me to keep my cardio up, especially for my body type, or I’ll gain weight so fast.”
The two-time Mirrorball trophy winner, who serves as Ideology’s brand ambassador, acknowledged that there are many obstacles to staying in shape during the holiday season. But she does have one piece of advice.
“It’s all about doing something fun, whether it’s an outdoor activity or yoga,” says Burke. “For me, Jazzercize works amazing. If you don’t have time, just run on a treadmill. It makes you want to eat better.”
“If I go a week without working out, it makes me feel that I might as well keep indulging,” she says. “If you really care about your body, then your mind starts to work better. So it’s important that it all stays balanced.”
Burke adds that she’ll keep busy during the show’s off season with endorsement deals, but that doesn’t mean she’s not thinking ahead to potential partners for next season.
Her dream pick? Says Burke: “I think anyone with lots of charisma, like Antonio Banderas, would be great.”

Cheryl Burke and Derek Hough Consider Futures On and Off ‘Dancing With the Stars’ |
Cheryl Burke and Derek Hough have five Dancing With the Stars titles between them. Joining the ABC series in seasons 2 and 5, respectively, they’re two of the winningest professional dancers on the roster — and among the more intimidating competitors as the Season 13 cast dwindles.
The series has put them in an usual place, with many viewers now voting for pros over celebrities. And as their fanbases grow, so do their opportunities to do things outside the show.
Hough took off Season 12 to film a movie, Cobu 3D, while Burke spent her recent hiatus a national tour to promote her book, Dancing Lessons.
“I’m so used to having my celebrity by my side,” Burke tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Every season I’ve done interviews with my celeb, and this time they only wanted me. It’s kind of crazy to be able to do that, but it gave me a lot of self confidence. It made me grow up a little bit.”
Hough says he’s grown up in a more literal way, saying that most people on set have remarked he’s been more focused since returning from his one-season break. He also recognizes that this gig might be more his speed.
“It was tough,” he says of filming the movie. “It was 17-hour days. I’m used to a fast-paced, live show. Movies are slow and really drawn out.”
Given his sister Julianne’s success since leaving the show — the former pro’s accomplishments include releasing a country album and starring in the Footloose remake — many suspected Hough was quietly bowing out of the series after winning with Jennifer Grey, his third victory in 7 seasons. But he came back to a warm reception with current partner Ricki Lake, and doesn’t seem to think it will be his last turn in the ballroom.

Cheryl Burke Dances Her Way To A Perfect 10 For Dole Salads |
MONTEREY, Calif. — Dole has teamed up with professional dancer and choreographer Cheryl Burke to motivate salad and fitness lovers to find new heights of inspiration — whether in the kitchen, in the gym or on the dance floor.
Burke, one of the professional dancers on ABC’s top-rated “Dancing with the Stars,” becomes the third and final celebrity artist enlisted by Dole for its “Find Your Inspiration” campaign, designed to help consumers maximize the culinary possibilities of Dole’s 38 salad blends and all-natural kits. A highlight of the partnership, breaking Oct. 3, is a national online sweepstakes in which participants can win one of three trips to California and a personal, four-hour dance lesson at her Cheryl Burke Dance Studio.
Just in time for this week’s debut of the 13th season of “Dancing,” Burke worked with Dole to create several new fitness-themed salad recipes designed to fuel any dance — or everyday — routine. These recipes are available in the DOLE Salads online library at www.dole.com/salads.
Launched earlier this year with Candice Olson of HGTV’s “Candice Tells All” and Clinton Kelly of TLC’s “What Not to Wear” and ABC’s “The Chew,” “Find Your Inspiration” features non-food designers, artists and performers applying their distinctive area of creative expertise to salad making. The campaign theme was selected from research indicating that many American salad lovers envision themselves as culinary artists and are as excited about making their salads as they are about the final result.
“Since salad-making has emerged as a true art form, Dole wanted to explore how some of the country’s best-known artists, designers and performers express themselves in the kitchen,” explained Ronda Reed, vice president of marketing for Dole Fresh Vegetables.
Burke was selected by Dole because of her love for salads and the strong affinity that salad enthusiasts have for her and the hit ABC show.
One of the largest salad-specific marketing campaigns in Dole history, “Find Your Inspiration” combines extensive digital and mobile advertising, in-store promotions, coupons and consumer sweepstakes with dedicated Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages spotlighting the celebrity artists. Also planned are Quick Response (QR) and Short Codes on Dole POS materials that link salad shoppers directly to new product recipes, pairings, nutrition and other information.
To enter the DOLE® Salads “Dancing with Cheryl” Sweepstakes, consumers need to like Dole Salads’ Facebook page, www.facebook.com/DoleSaladGuide, and then complete an online entry form on that page on or before Dec. 9, 2011. In addition to the three grand prize winners drawn after Dec. 9, 2011, a second prize winner will be drawn each day between Oct. 3 and Dec. 9, 2011, and awarded a dance DVD. No purchase is necessary to enter.
